My overarching goal for next year, across all my hobbies, is to work on my massive backlog. I have a backlog of games I'd like to play, books I'd like to read, visual novels I'd like to experience, and unfinished art to complete. Since this blog is where I post my reviews of games, visual novels, and manga; I'm going to post reviews of books here too. This is where I'll hold myself accountable for working on my media backlog over the course of next year. I have hundreds of these things to experience, and I'm only setting my goals for one year, so I thought I'd narrow it down.
1. Complete the main story lines for both entries of the My Time At series. This includes My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock. I've barely started Portia and haven't installed Sandrock yet, however, I kickstarted My Time at Evershine, which is scheduled to come out in 2026, and I want to have the first two played through before I start the one I kickstarted. If I complete both games and still have time before the Evershine alpha testing, I will add other single player titles to this goal.
2. See how far I can get through the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey. I got the entire series as a Humble Bundle, and goddammit, I'm gonna read it! It's over 30 books, but if I even get 12 books read next year, that will be sufficient. I'm not the best reader... If I get through one book, and decide I don't like Lackey's writing style, I will switch this goal to one of my other Humble Bundles.
3. Visual Novels! I buy a ton, and I used to read them like a fiend before my eyesight got worse. Now that I have better glasses, I'd like to get back into the habit of starting and finishing visual novels I've bought. As much as I'd love to make the Muv Luv series my goal, those VNs are massive, with hundreds of hours to complete, so I think I should start small, like my Sakura backlog. Winged Cloud has published 45 Sakura VNs to date and I've completed 20 of them, and have 25 waiting to be finished. If I make a lot of progress with the Sakura VNs over winter and spring, I might switch to Muv Luv in the summer. Each one takes about 4 hours to complete.
4. Live Service Games. I have 2 live service games I'd like to maintain a presence in, Aura Kingdom and Palia. I don't want to fall behind in either one. I mean, I'm already behind in both, but at the bare minimum, I want to get the login rewards in AK and the Twitch drops in Palia. If I can keep up with those, I will feel like I haven't missed out. In addition, I would like to play Monster Hunter Wilds when it launches at the end of February, and at least get through the main story quest and be high enough level to participate in holiday events with my husband.
Well, those are my media goals for next year. I will post reviews of books, VNs, and games I complete, as well as bi-monthly updates to my goals, like I did on my doll blog. These may not seem like year long goals, but I simultaneously have similar goals in my art hobbies and doll collecting hobbies, so I'll be balancing a lot.
