Hello Kitty Island Adventure Launch Weekend

When I first heard of Hello Kitty Island Adventure, I assumed since it was a mobile game first that it would be absolute trash riddled with microtransactions, which killed me because I've been a Hello Kitty connossiour for decades.  Much to my surprise, there are no microtransactions whatsoever as of the launch weekend for PC and Switch.  I chose to play on my PC, because that's what I'm most comfortable with.

The character creator is really nice and conveniently always accessible.  You can choose between cat, dog, rabbit, horse, sheep, and bird, and each race has several subraces and different bodytypes.

Color palettes are limited in the beginning, but you unlock more as you progress through NPCs friendship levels and complete quests.  Wardrobes are also limited at first, but you can buy more from the shop that rotates daily using currency found on the ground in the first zone.

Gender is not a thing in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, everyone is a gender neutral cute chibi animal, so anyone can wear pants or dresses, wear whatever you want.

NPCs in Hello Kitty are all licensed Sanrio characters, and their lore is all pretty accurately followed.  If you have watched the Youtube show, you'll notice many similarities.  Hello Kitty runs the bakery.  My Melody runs a general store.  Tuxedo Sam runs a tailor shop.  Batzmaru runs a comic stand that doubles as a fishing vendor.  Keroppi hangs out in a swamp and Kuromi has a haunted house.  About the actual gameplay!  There's a lot of fetch quests, collectibles, random shit on the ground to pick up, fishing, bug catching, hopefully eventually furniture making and interior decorating, but I'm not that far yet.  It's all incredibly fun and I can spend hours in this game exploring and looking for collectibles.  It's not a very high stakes game, very low key and relaxing, and I'm very happy to have it during this trying time in reality.
